Spider-Man FFH Trailer Offers A Look At A Post Endgame MCU
Major Endgame Spoilers!!! Stop reading if you haven't seen Endgame!
Monday morning brought us a new Spider-Man Far From Home trailer where we get a glimpse at what life is like for Peter after the events of Endgame. It starts out with Peter sitting on a rooftop, still in his Iron Spider suit, looking at a mural of Ironman, and shifts to him talking to Happy about how much he misses Tony. This is where Happy delivers what I think to be the best line in the whole trailer, "I don't think Tony would have done what he did if he didn't now that you were going to be here after he was gone." Eluding to Tony using the Infinity Stones to snap away Thanos and his army.
There's a lot to digest in this trailer, as it is the first movie after Endgame and thus has the responsibility of setting up the foreseeable future of the MCU. We get to see Nick Fury somehow go undetected in Peter and Ned's hotel room, I still don't know why Peter's spider sense didn't go off... We also get Fury introducing Peter to Mysterio, who says "We could use someone like you on my world." No, Mysterio isn't from space, but he's from a different Earth, Nick Fury explains. So this is what seems to be the true next step for the MCU! A Multiverse!!! This is so exciting, having multiple universes now inside the MCU can set up for so many different Marvel storylines. I can think of several just for Spider-Man. Spider-Man 2099, bring in Miles Morales, basically a Spider-Man Into the Spider-verse live action movie! But we'll have to wait and see what limits this Multiverse has to offer.
The rest of the trailer is mostly footage of Peter in the all blacked out stealth suit, which looks amazing btw. While what we can assume are the Elementals, are attacking cities all across Europe, Spider-Man and Mysterio seem to team up in an effort to stop them. This also might finally be the movie where MJ and Peter confess their feelings for each other, after all that is what Peter tells Mysterio that's what he wanted to do on this "vacation" of sorts. It all leads up to Peter saying "The world needs its next Ironman." Who will that be? We do have options... It could be Morgan, Tony's daughter who we are introduced to in Endgame. Pepper Pots might step up as Rescue and take over the mantle, although I'd be curious to see if Shuri, Black Panther's little sister might swoop in with her big brain and be an unexpected candidate. After all she does seem to have to smarts to hang with Bruce Banner.
Spider-Man Far From Home has peaked my interest and knowing that Mysterio isn't what he says he is based on his mean comic book reputation, I'm curious to see how the events of FFH play out. Many are already speculating that Mysterio will use his powers to make Peter relive losing Tony again. If that happens he needs to get his ass beat...
This trailer has real emotions in it, which is one of the reasons I'm looking forward to seeing it. I've been wanting Peter to have some really solid character development, and this looks like the movie where he realizes how much responsibility he has being Spider-Man, so let's see how he handles that in theaters July 2nd.
