Aragami Is The Best Indie Game I've Ever Played
I recently started my subscription to PS Now, which is basically Playstation's version of a Netflix library of video games. You can pay 19.99 a month and play anything that's in the library. I almost want to call it a store, but at its core it's a monthly subscription for a bunch of games at your fingertips. I think I might make another article about PS Now on its own because I think that service is just really interesting, and what it offers compared to what it costs per month is also something I want to look at closer. But okay... I was in the PS Now and I was looking for a game to play, since for some reason lately my attention span for games as been as long as the attention span of a fly. I'll play one game of Apex and when I lose I'm just done with Apex, I need to find something else. However Aragami broke that spell, mostly. Having caught my eye in the PS Now library, I looked at its trailer and saw I get to play as a ninja that can teleport using shadows, and was like "Yes." So let's get into Aragami!
You start off with your Aragami waking up to the sound of a voice. You wake up outside of a Japanese dojo, following the same voice that woke you. You then see this spirit appear in front of you, and this is Yamiko, the one who summoned the Aragami and as we find out, is seeking revenge against those who took power from her, and sealed her spirit away in 5 or 6 talismans and have been spread out across the lands. Our goal as Aragami, is to get past all the guards on our way to collecting the talismans, and being able to use those talismans to revive the princess so she can regain her power, as the rightful leader. At this point I'm like, "oooooh yea! This is gonna be fun!" And I honestly don't even want to spoil this game for you because I've come to love it so much, and I think you should play it!
There are aspects of this game that interest me so much. The fact you are nearly invisible to guards, in the shadows. The combat system isn't anything else then pressing square when you're near someone, yet it's exciting finding new ways to bend through the shadows and kill them again. Your Aragami is able to teleport anywhere a shadow touches, in this nearly invisible state, the color of the Aragami's armor goes from blood red to deep black, the cape it wears acts as a meter for your shadow powers, longer the meter, longer the white outlines down the cape. And just let me tell you how easy this game it to pick up but so hard it is for someone to master. Activating all your shadow powers are shown to you in a smooth tutorial. There are other powers to acquire like deadly shadow kunai, the ability to make a clone of yourself and have that clone explode, and a wall hack, that shows the direction the guard is facing and tracks them for a short duration. And the entire game you're fighting this army of light. Some guards have little flames that circle them as they walk around that prevent you from teleporting behind them at certain angles. There are archers that fire orbs of fire that can track you and stick to you, and when light is your weakness as the Aragami, you'll want to avoid those. When playing Aragami, there was a point where I thought, "Okay, I understand how this works, now I wanna get stupid with it." Just learn every trick about how to conjure up shadows and teleporting into an aerial kill, or luring in enemies with the bells the Aragami has on its wrist and performing a shadow kill. This game is really interesting and I love it. I'm about to start my second playthrough on the hardest difficulty and try to max out every skill, so wish me luck.
But before that! I urge you to check this game out!!! I really think many of you might like it and enjoy what Linceworks put together. Don't forget to leave a comment down below! Let me know if you've already played Aragami and let me know what you thought! Or let me know if I convinced you to buy it!
