Modern Warfare Campaign Trailer! Plus A Review Of The Beta!!
Shortly after the trailer for Modern Warfare's rebooted campaign leaked on Reddit, the official Call of Duty Twitter account posted the full video to the site. From what the trailer gives us, we are offered a re-imagining of the original game released back in 2007. We're shown Captain Price, as he leads a new team through a new age of tech and tactics. I won't get too far into the trailer itself, you should just go watch it for yourself and form your own opinion.
All I can really say is, go watch the trailer, I know some players will never care about the story and only buy Call Of Duty for its multiplayer, but I feel most players this go around are going to give the campaign a try, It looks that good.
However I did play the beta the past two weekends and the gameplay is a mix of traditional Call Of Duty you'll be used to if you played MW2, with an adjustment to the guns that gives them a certain weight that they almost feel hefty around the battlefield, and finally players can hold corners and peak them similarly to Rainbow 6, but not all the time like R6. It adds a fresh, distinct feel to the game that feels more original that reboot, yet as you play it, you're saying to yourself, "This is how Call Of Duty should feel."
Going in to this beta, I knew I was slightly hyped about this game because it's made by the team who gave us some of the most memorable and loved Call Of Duty games in the entire history of the franchise. The mechanics are recognizable to any former or new player to the franchise, while adding enough in things like "field upgrades" which after a variable cooldown, (depending on which one you have equipped) will be available for use. Some of these include an ammo box, restocking a fair amount of bullets. Stomping Power rounds that do more damage per bullet. A recon drone you can pilot and tag enemies with, and a few more that I didn't get to use. Killstreaks are back, taking their spot back from "Score" streaks, which can be earned by either kills or playing the objective. I personally prefer Killstreaks as they feel more meaningful in some way. Knowing I had to take down a significant amount of enemies to earn my chopper gunner made me appreciate it a little bit more. I still haven't seen footage of a nuke, but the highest killstreak I managed to get was 18, and I feel like I could have gotten the nuke if the game hadn't ended... yea I'm salty about that.
Modern Warfare really looks like it's back, and it means business. Look for this game to set some records in sales, if not in competition with other games like GTA, but especially within its own franchise. This is the game people wanted back in 2011, when MW3 just didn't hit for some people. Modern Warfare might actually get me to play Call Of Duty regularly again...
