Apex Legends Season 3 Promises Big Changes! Will It Be Enough?
Respawn entertainment announced the third season of Apex Legends will introduce a whole new map, a brand new character, and even new ways of engaging your enemies. I want to know if these additions are enough to revitalize the game which has had a noticeable drop in concurrent players.
The brand new map is called Meltdown, and it appears to be separated into multiple different biomes. There will be areas covered in "chemical" ice (so cold it burns?), lava (burns), and grassy meadows with geysers of water that will (bur-) launch you into the air similar to Octane's current ultimate. There's even a train players can use to get around the map, and adds land travel to the game for the first time, something different than the thrusters we're used to while flying from a jump tower.
Two videos have been released so far regarding the new map, a pretty dope cinematic involving the new character Crypto, teaming up with Lifeline and the always cocky Mirage. In the video Crypto and Mirage take turns counting how many kills they have during the match, with Crypto out performing "the old man" Mirage. Go watch the cinematic here. The second is a gameplay trailer, which gives us a great look at the map, some gameplay from Crypto, and the new "Spartan Laser" in action.
So to do a quick summary, a brand new map, a dope new character, and new ways of engagement. This season of Apex is looking to be the best one yet, but to that I say... will it be enough?
It's been documented that Apex lost a good chunk of their player base only a short few months after its release. So with an entirely new map, a similar strategy to that of PUBG, which uses different maps in a rotation to satisfy its players, and an entirely different method than Fortnite uses, which are gradual, yet noticeable, changes to the one map over time. Apex did something similar for Season 2, which added the two giant dinosaurs in the middle of the map, which crushed certain areas along the river. The real question is, can this new map get the games player base back up to a competing level with Fortnite. I'm not too sure it can. But as someone who regularly plays Apex, this new map is something fresh to learn and learn every inch of, plus the addition of Crypto, there should be some interesting new Apex clips coming out October 1st, when the third season of Apex is released.
Are you going to start playing Apex again? Let me know in the comments!!!
