Why You NEED To See Spider-Man Far From Home

I'll try and keep this spoiler free. Spider-Man Far From Home brings everything amazing about Homecoming, and amplifies all those things while making up for some of the lackluster parts of the first movie. It quickly became my favorite Spider-Man movie when I first learned Mysterio would be taking part in this installment. Jake Gyllenhaal's performance is incredibly convincing and a major highlight of the film, and in true Mysterio fashion, there aren't any shortage of mind-blowing visuals in this movie. Mysterio is also one of my favorite Spider-Man villains of all time, so seeing these two on the screen together was an insane wish come true. So let's start with what makes FFH better than Homecoming.

To start, there's more web swinging. Homecoming was a great movie, however I felt it lacked a lot of things that makes Spider-Man unique as a hero. Namely, using his webs to navigate whatever space he's in, so FFH takes this and just runs with it, there's no shortage of that satisfying sound of Spidey thwip his webs! Another, and most important thing about this movie, is that Peter matures so much more than he has in Civil War and Homecoming combined. This movie is really his coming to terms with what it means to be a hero, what it means to be Spider-Man. He takes this head on and after making a huge mistake, he realizes that he has these powers and they come with a lot of responsibility (RIP Uncle Ben thanks for that one). What I'm trying to say, is that we see Peter grow from adolescences into a young man who realizes he has a lot riding on his shoulders, and that's something I've been waiting for since Civil War, and what I thought was going to happen in Homecoming, but didn't really come to pass.

Another big pro with this movie, was Mysterio himself. Gyllenhaal's performance was so master class from beginning to end, that I genuinely had no idea what was going to happen next. Mysterio's character throughout the movie was so in line with his comic book origins, in terms of mind games and how slippery he was while fighting, it was such a pleasure to watch on the big screen. For the first quarter of the movie you are genuinely driven to believe that "Hey, Mysterio might not be so bad after all." I don't know if that's a spoiler... but... whoops?

Now, let's try and find some things wrong with FFH. Having Spider-Man swing around foreign cities was pretty weird to see, not something that necessarily was bad at all, just strange. But if every story took place in New York I'd think it would get a little stale, especially since the other 5 Spider-Man movies were all based around the big apple. One other thing that was almost cringe to see, was the relationship between MJ and Peter, and not cringe in a fanboy kind of way, it's just both of their characters are just both SO awkward around each other. However, we do see that relationship grow more than it did in Homecoming, where MJ wasn't even Peter's main interest. However, I did really enjoy where MJ and Peter left off at the end, very touching, very cute.

So there you have it, I tried to keep it spoiler free as much as possible. I hope I did alright. I highly recommend seeing this movie in theaters while you can! If you didn't enjoy Homecoming as much as you thought you would, Far From Home is definitely an improvement.

Overall: 9.3/10 :')
