WE'RE GETTING A NEW NINTENDO CONSOLE!!!
Okay, there have been rumors going around about a new Nintendo Switch for some time now, whether it was going to be a "pro" version or something cheaper, and we finally got confirmation on what Nintendo's next handheld will be.... And it looks pretty amazing for the price.
The Nintendo Switch 'Lite' as it's been dubbed, is coming to stores September 20th, that's only a few months away, and I think it's a great strategy for the holidays since the handheld starts at $199. But let's start with the word "handheld" because Nintendo is really emphasizing that that's what the Lite version of the Switch will be, a dedicated handheld gaming device. This is where Nintendo THRIVES! Think about the Gameboy and the DS that came before it, Nintendo are the masters of handheld game devices and party games, so it's super exciting to see the Switch get a cheaper, handheld only version of the console.
The specs of the 'Lite' (that's just what I'm gonna call it now) aren't greaaaat... You don't get detachable joy cons, so forget sharing a game with your friend if it's just you two and the console. It can't be docked and show up on your TV, like the regular Switch can, but that's the whole reason they're pushing it as a handheld in the first place. There aren't any rumble features in the joy cons, and forget about motion control games, it's just not happening. BUT I don't think that's going to stop many people from buying it. It's significantly cheaper than it's older sibling, comes in three eye catching colors (idk if you can consider gray eye catching but it looks great), and Nintendo says the 'Lite' will have 20-30% more battery life the big sibling Switch. That's what I'm calling the Switch now, it's always going to be 'big sibling Switch' now.
Just think about it, parents this holiday season are going to see the 'Lite' and think, "Hey it looks exactly like the other, more expensive one, and it's YELLOW?! I'll take 3 for the kids." I have a feeling the 'Lite' is going to kick some ass this Christmas, it honestly doesn't have any competitors in the handheld space, and it plays many of the same games as the big sibling Switch already does. Super Smash Bros, yup, Breath of the Wild, yessir, Mario Kart, uh huh. This console is going to be a hit, I can FEEL IT!
NOW, just imagine... playing your big sibling Switch, and having to leave the house, and SWITCHING the the Switch 'Lite'... ahhh? aaaaaah? Okay I'm done.
