Everything iOS 13! and more...

WWDC was Apple's big event to showcase all their innovations in software and hardware, and boy did they not disappoint.

To start we got info about the highly anticipated iOS 13, the big new patch of software for all iPhone's from the 6s or newer. We got to see the new iPad OS, which, yes, iPad is finally getting its own OS system to finally differentiate itself as something other than just a big iPhone. Apple gave us a look at Mac OS "Catalina" the new and improved Mac software which I'm very excited about for a specific reason. And finally, we got a look at the new Mac Pro, one of the most high end desktops I've ever seen. Oh, and maybe some watch OS 6... But let's jump right in with iOs 13.

In Monday's press conference, Apple started off with iOS 13, and as Apple does, gave us some unspecific specs about how iOS 13 will run on your iPhone. Those stats include, face ID being 30% faster, apps being able to launch 2x faster, app downloads will be 50% smaller, and finally, app updates will be 60% smaller. So these stats are pretty insane from the get-go. Now, Apple has had a tricky history of making claims such as these, while basically saying "yea, just trust us on this." However, I would say that Apple realized most of us are naive enough to see those numbers and just believe them, cause why would they lie? It's on the big screen... I'll try and revisit those numbers when I get my hands on the first public beta! Apple also introduced DARK MODE!! WOW, finally! I feel like Apple is always a year or two behind in adding what we usually think are simple additions to the UI, like this dark mode. And honestly when they presented the first look at dark mode, I was almost like... that's it? But it quickly got better. The widget center, which you can access with a right swipe from the lock screen, was the first thing they showed and was pretty underwhelming, with the widget's going from a light gray/clear color to basically a more shaded gray. But that's the point of dark mode really. They started off with news which has, you guessed it, a dark background. Okay lets get serious though, calendar honestly looks great with dark mode equipped, and messages also has a nice refined finish with a contrasting dark gray keyboard to the black background of the messages screen. Another thing they showed while showing off the new look for messages was the ability to swipe to type! Like I said, some of these features have been around for a while on other devices, Apple just seems to be a little late for whatever reason. There's honestly so many little things in iOS 13 that are going to make our lives a little bit easier. From Apple's version of Google street view which they call Lookaround, Memoji stickers which can be used on devices with an A9 chip or above. I honestly love this! Imagine having to have an iPhone X or higher to use Memoji stickers... that would be awful but alas! Almost everyone can use these fun stickers now! There's new features in photos which gets rid of the clutter of useless screenshots in what they call Daily View, which uses machine learning to pick the pictures it thinks you want to see, so we'll see how efficient that works out. The stock mail app is getting revamped, and you can now share audio with AirPods which I'm not sure how often I'll be using but, dope. Notes is getting a gallery view, and the Reminders app is getting overhauled, which is highly needed and something which I am extremely hyped for.

iPad OS is a brand new operating system for the iPad, which seems long overdue. It includes folder sharing in files, a new three finger gesture for copy/paste, removing the shake to undo for iPad, a download manager for safari, and multi-window view which is capable of opening two of the same app at once. The example they showed was opening two notes at once to show off the multi-tasking capabilities of the new iPad OS. Now, there's another big thing that comes with iPad having a brand new OS, and that's developers being able to bring their iPad app to the Mac while bringing the smoothest experience possible.

New Mac OS "Catalina" allows for what they are calling "Sidecar" which allows for your iPad to act as a second display to your mac. So instead of having to buy a whole other monitor to connect your Mac too, you can simply use your iPad and it will work in the same fashion. Apple also announced voice control for Mac and iOS, for those with disabilities.

The new Mac Pro most likely stole the show with it's ever so elegant cheese grater design and even crazier specs. The max amount of RAM you can have in this thing is 1.5 TERABYTES with a max of 28 cores! So this thing is a modular monster but that means it's gotta be pricy right? Oh yea... the Mac Pro starts at $5999, and the Mac Pro XDR (Extreme Dynamic Range) Display starts at $4999, and what I think is the best part, the stand for the display... is $999. So if you want the entire set up, you're looking at at least $13,000 out the gate. This computer is not meant for the everyday person. It's meant for those who edit movies and professional videos and compose entire symphonies.

Now, finally, while they did start the conference with this, watchOS 6. Some neat new features coming to your watch include a new noise feature that takes noises around you and measures the decibel level and how it could impact your hearing, new watch faces and watch bands, along with audiobooks, voice memos, and a native calculator app. There are now apps that can run solely on the watch, that means not having to download another app onto your iPhone just to have it on your watch! This also means that the app store is coming to the watch itself, where you can browse apps, look at reviews, and even download apps right from your watch. For women, there's a new cycle app, for that time of the month, while although there are already apps that do this, having it on the app may make it more discrete. There's also new updates to the health app, which now brings us highlights of our health, and suggests things we should work on in order stay healthy.

Overall, I think Apple did a great job this WWDC, brining us new features that I can see many using day in and day out, I'll be looking forward to the public beta in July, but for now, I'm going to see if I can get my hands on a developer beta in the meantime.

Check back in for more info in the coming months!
